The photo of our very first NAWHSL President, Aleene Kidd, is at the first conference in 1967 that turned out to be the “organizing conference” for what we know as NAWHSL. Aleene is with the wife of the first US Secretary of Transportation, Mrs. Alan Boyd, who served as the conference’s Honorary Chairman, and also Sylvia Casey the Montana Governor’s appointee to the conference

The 2024 Traffic Safety Leadership Conference for the National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders is in the books. Mind you, I did not say that it’s history because the conference content is very alive, ready to be integrated into our current programming. Our focus this year, in the home of the Indy 500, was on Revving Up Community Engagement- Getting To The Finish Line.
I loved hearing a participant say- These speakers are powerhouses! Take a look at some of the highlights below.

Indiana’s students in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) shared information on their project, conducting a road safety analysis on their roads near their school. FCCLA students are an incredible resource for traffics safety professionals, and include 245,000 members all across the U.S.! Traffic safety projects give them look into transportation as a career while it gives our programs extra boots on the ground.
